Parents and Citizens Association
Curtin Primary School’s Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) is made up of current and past parents, carers, and friends of the school.
If you are a new parent or carer of a child at Curtin Primary School, welcome! All new parents and carers are automatic members of the P&C, and we encourage you to participate in the many events we hold throughout the year to connect with the school community.
The function of the Curtin Primary P&C is to promote engagement and a sense of community among the parents and carers, the school staff, and the wider Curtin community. As a community we aim to contribute to the school in a variety of ways and hold the wellbeing of our children at our centre.
Our objectives are to:
- Create a sense of community for our parents, carers, and wider school community.
- Provide a forum for discussing issues of interest and providing input to education policies.
- Provide a canteen and uniform shop.
- Raise funds to support activities, learning at school and school facilities.
- Provide a link between the School Board, parents, carers, and the school.
We are governed by volunteers and most activities are volunteer led and run, so we always value any time you can spare to help make our school great!
What do we do?
- General meetings are held twice a term where we discuss and present various topics of interest to parents and carers, including hearing news from our School Principal or their representative.
- Research opportunities for and draft applications for grants which help to improve the school environment and experience.
- Run the famous, and popular, Curtin Primary School Twilight Fair (usually held in Term 3 every second year).
- Hold year group welcome picnics for all families at the start of the school year.
- Hold events aimed at the Preschool and Kindergarten aged children providing an opportunity for new families to get to know each other.
- ‘Strictly adult only’ trivia nights.
- Mother’s Day social evening.
- Father’s Day social event.
- Student discos and movie nights.
- World Teacher Day teachers’ gifts and morning tea.
- Raffles throughout the year.
- And of course, we run the Democracy Sausage Sizzle at the Curtin Primary School polling booth for any Federal and Territory elections or Referendums, where we provide a sausage sizzle, cake stalls, raffles, and plant sales.
The P&C operates two businesses:
- The Canteen is open five days a week and provides healthy and nutritious food for students. We are Canberra’s only self-funded, privately run Canteen that operates 5 days a week. (https://www.curtinps.act.edu.au/parents_and_citizens_p_and_c_association/canteen)
- The Uniform Shop provides parents and carers with the opportunity to purchase new and second-hand school uniforms at the school. The Uniform Shop is open Wednesday mornings between 8.30 and 9.30am opposite the Canteen. Drop in’s welcome.

Participating in some of our events is the next step, come along to a few of our meetings, social nights, and fundraising activities. Everyone is welcome and it’s a great way to meet new people. And of course, if you have some time and a skill or two to contribute, we would love you to reach out and let us know. There is always something you can help with, including volunteering in the Canteen or Uniform Shop, drafting grant applications, supporting events, and contributing to suggestions on how to improve the school experience for our children and community.
